Tuesday 24th March – walks and travel *** - Above Talloires and Mesnil
St. Pierre – sunny.
Had a good night in our spot high above Talloires with stunning views of
Lac Annecy, today is the start of our journey home but were in no hurry to
leave so read for a bit, had breakfast, then we knew from a previous visit
there is a chapel just up the road with amazing all-round views s we drove
up to it! The narrow lane is very steep but we made it to the small carpark
with a massive snow-capped mountain behind where we have snowshoed in the
past. The hermitage is in an amazing place with breathtaking scenery with
the most vibrant yellow forsythia in the garden being tended by a very
friendly gardener who we chatted too, he said that it was going to snow
again tomorrow and it is windy and cool back in England, so that’s
something to look forward too! We walked the short distance to a belvedere
where you could see Annecy in the distance and back to the van to start the
long trip home! We set Mags phone for Bellegarde the scenic route where we
stopped at a supermarket for more cake and some yummy prawns, we know how
to live. We continued onto Nantua and had lunch at a picnic bench
overlooking the small Lac surrounded by massive rocks, just brilliant in
the warm sunshine watching loads of old boys fishing in boats! Then up and
over the last of the mountains before reaching the toll motorway where Mag
did a couple of hours driving before we stopped for a quick cuppa and cake!
I drive the last hour, the toll motorways are really good and you can make
quick progress cruising along at 75)80 mph! We then turned off the motorway
just before Troyes, it only cost 26 Euros and headed to the Lac we stopped
on our first night. We arrived just as the sun disappeared behind a bank of
cloud but still managed a quick walk out to the end of the breakwater, even
spotted a kingfisher! Then we drove a little further to a little carpark
surrounded by trees, seeing a deer by the Lac enroute. I just had enough
time to whizz over to the Lac to catch the sky turn red, top end to a good
days traveling and we are now only 4 hours from Calais where it is supposed
to be windy so it’s a good thing we are on the shuttle!
